Watermans art centre, 40-40A High Street Brentford (ref P/2017/3372)
An application has now been made for redevelopment of this site on the river which includes demolition of the existing office building and arts centre to be replaced with 193 flats with ground floor retail and cafe units. The buildings would be 6 and 7 storeys high – at least 35m. We are objecting to the height of the buildings which would significantly alter the river aspect and harm views from the Royal Botanic Gardens and historic buildings, including Kew Palace. The amount of new living accommodation in Brentford without clear plans for the necessary infrastructure support, including school and health facilities, is also a major concern.
A new exhibition of “fresh” plans to replace the Watermans Art Centre in Brentford with 193 flats is on Friday July 7th between 4pm & 7pm and on Saturday July 8th between 11am & 3pm at St Paul’s Church, St Paul’s Road, Brentford TW8 0PN. The Plans are to relocate the Watermans Art Centre to the old Police Station underneath a further 105 flats.
An application has not yet been submitted for the re-development of this waterside site but we were pleased to see that local MP Ruth Cadbury has raised concerns with Hounslow Council.
Developers London Green are holding public exhibitions on Wednesday 2nd November from 16.00-20.00 and on Saturday 5th November from 10.30-16.00 at the Watermans Art Centre showing their proposals for moving the Arts Centre from its current location on the river to a new position at the old police station in Half Acre.Project team members will be available to answer questions.
Flats will be built on both the old police station site and the current Watermans and Max Factor buildings as part of a project that will see approximately 300 flats being across both sites.

Hounslow Council have confirmed that a new site has been found for the Watermans art centre which will move to the old police station in Brentford. The current site will be redeveloped for a marina and housing. We will be keeping an eye on what is proposed in this sensitive riverside location.
