Fun at the KHS Show

We were incredibly lucky to have glorious weather for the Kew Horticultural Flower & Produce Show on Kew Green last Saturday, now in its 73rd year.

Congratulations to all those hard working volunteers from the Kew Horticultural Society.

Here are a few photos of the day.

Wine Tasting Course for Kew Society Members

    "Classic Regions of Europe"

The course took place over four Mondays June 22nd & 29th, July 6th & 13th at 8pm - 9.30 in The Good Wine Shop.

Following the success of the introductory course at the end of last year, The Good Wine Shop devised a follow-up course for Kew Society members featuring a more detailed look at four classic European wine regions. The course was led again by Wine Educator, Pippa Hayward.

In each session members tasted four representative wines from each of the following areas – Bordeaux, Rioja, the Loire valley and the Veneto.

Members discovered what makes a “Right Bank” wine different to a “Left Bank” one in Bordeaux; why a tiny corner of northeast Italy enjoys such a high profile; how a traditional region like Rioja is changing and what explains the sheer diversity of wines along the Loire valley.

The course aimed to hone tasting skills and develop understanding of how history, climate, geography and sometimes even fate, can combine to produce wines unique to a particular area.

    Comments on the introductory course:

“This was my first wine course and Pippa was fab, lovely manner. I learnt a lot.” “Pippa is an excellent teacher and impressively well informed.”

“...made me more confident about coming in to a wine shop and asking for advice or questions.”

“A lovely course...I cannot drink a bottle now without thinking about the mouthfuls from start to finish!”
